Race Notes - Hamilton wins in Monaco

Lewis Hamilton won his third career Monaco victory, after starting from pole position in his Mercedes GP.

Max Verstappen finished second on the road, but in the end was classified in fourth after being given a 5-second time penalty for unsafe release.

Sebastien Vettel finished in second place in his Ferrari, 2.602 seconds behind Hamilton.

Valterri Bottas in his Mercedes GP took the final podium position, 3.162 seconds behind the winner.

Hamilton switched to Medium tires, while the other fron runners went with the Hard compound tires, and battled to hold off Verstappen to the finish, on well-worn tires for the last 67-laps of the race.

Hamilton continues lead in the Driver's championship with 137 points, and now leads Bottas by 14 points. It's Hamilton's fourth win of the 2019 season, and the 77th win of his career. It is also Mercedes GPs sixth consecutive win of the season. Sebastian Vettel also moved up to third in the Driver's Championship, with 82 points, passing Verstappen, who has 78.

Hamilton won the race wearing a helmet in tribute to Niki Lauda, who also won three times at the Principality.

Pierre Gasly captured fastest lap of the race at 1:14:279, on lap 72, giving him an extra point towards the Championship.

Max Verstappen (5.537s) in the Red Bull Honda was fourth, followed by his teammate Pierre Gasly (9.946s) in fifth, Carlos Sainz (53.454s) in the McLaren-Renault was sixth, Daniil Kvyat (54.474s) in the Torro Rosso-Honda was seventh, Alexander Albon (55.200s) in the second Torro Rosso-Honda was eighth, Daniel Ricardo (60.894s) in the Renault was ninth, and Roman Grosjean (61.034s) in the Haas-Ferrari took the final point position in tenth place.
