August ban gets the go-ahead for 2001

Formula One team-bosses have agreed to have a three-week break from action in August after a second round of talks with FIA officials at Monza this weekend.

Jordan boss Eddie Jordan claimed he was behind the idea to have a blanket ban of the sport in August in order to allow staff to have a lengthy break from their duties.

And the FIA have decided that the idea will officially be used in the 2001 calendar with a three-week gap between events in August planned in order for staff members to have a holiday.

During the three-week break, testing will also be banned to ensure that teams do not gain an advantage over their rivals.
