This young Brazilian scored a single race win in the 1993 British Formula 3 Championship and moved up into Formula 3000 in 1995, finishing second in the Championship behind teammate Vincenzo Sospiri. He drove for the Arrows team in 1996, struggling to keep pace with teammate Jos Verstappen, had a brief flirtation with the disastrous Lola Formula 1 squad which collapsed after a single race in 1997 and then switched to Tyrrell in 1998, the team by this time owned by British American Racing.
