Olivier Beretta

Keen and committed former kartist, Beretta finished third in the 1990 French Formula 3 Championship with third place in the Monaco F3 classic and a win at Pau to his credit. He eventually moved into Formula 3000 in 1992 driving for Nelson Piquet's team, moving to Forti Corse the following year to win the opening round of the Championship at Donington Park. In 1994 he secured sufficient sponsorship to clinch a drive with the Tourtel Larrousse F1 team, finishing eighth at Monaco, seventh in Germany and ninth in Hungary after which he lost his drive to a series of financially even-better qualified rivals. Since then Beretta has driven a Chrysler Viper with considerable success and was crowned FIA GT Champion together with Karl Wendlinger in 1999. In recent years Beretta has acted as a test driver for the Michelin tyre company with the BMW Williams F1 team.
