Straight Talk - Williams at a crossroad

There is no hiding the 2016 season has been disappointing for Williams. After two years during which Sir Frank's team punched above its weight, finishing third in the both in 2014 and 2015, the Grove-based team has not only dropped clearly behind Red Bull and Ferrari, but also started to fall into the clutches of Force India and, more recently, Toro Rosso and McLaren-Honda.

Straight Talk - Time for a change?

"I'll put my head in a bucket of cold water, that is the next thing I will do after this", said a visibly irritated Toto Wolff when facing the media just one hour after Mercedes' two drivers collided - for the second time in five races - at the start of the last lap of the Austrian Grand Prix.

Straight Talk - Two Lost Opportunities

Ferrari threw away the chance of upsetting the form book in Montreal when Sebastian Vettel was called into the pits on lap 11 of the Canadian Grand Prix, effectively committing the German to a two-stops strategy on a day tyre degradation was remarkably low.

Straight Talk - On knee-jerk reations

The state of disarray that has hit Formula One's governance was painfully obvious last weekend in Melbourne. The last qualifying session had barely finished and already Team Principals were declaring the new format, "rubbish", and insisting we should go back to the previous format...

Straight Talk - A crucial season begins

It's that time of the year again, when we are flying to Melbourne the nearly 30 hours spent in planes and airports, and queues for security checks, to get to Australia. People who work in Formula One have to love what they're doing, otherwise the toll of massive intercontinental travelling is simply too much if you're doing it just for the money.

Straight Talk - What the Renault deal means

We are just one week away from Renault finally completing the buyout of the Lotus Formula One team, after a gestation period of about eleven months, with the good news being that one of the historic Formula One outfits will not only remain on the grid but will have a good enough budget to return to the front of the field in the near future.
