Charlie Moody

A graduate of Sheffield Polytechnic in 1977, Moody wanted to get into motor racing and he joined Walter Wolf Racing as a mechanic. When the team was taken over by Fittipaldi in 1979 he moved there and then followed Keke Rosberg to Williams when the Finn was hired in 1982. Rosberg won the World Championship that year. Moody settled at Williams for the next five seasons but when his former Williams colleague Peter Collins was appointed Benetton team manager in 1985, Moody was asked to move to run the Benetton test team. He stayed at Benetton until 1989 when he was hired by Leyton House Racing and in 1990 he was appointed Leyton House's team manager. He remained in that role throughout the difficult period before the team closed down in 1993 and then dropped out of F1 briefly until hired to be Simtek's team manager in 1994. When that team folded Moody decided to stay out of F1 for a while but continued to work in the sport in touring cars and manufacturing. In 1999 he was put in charge of the BMW F1 testing program but has since faded from the F1 scene again.
