Carroll withdraws from A1 test

Adam Carroll has withdrawn from next week's test for the drivers for Britain's A1 Grand Prix team. Carroll's slot will now go to Formula 3 Euroseries driver James Rossiter. It is not known why Carroll has made the move but it may be that he already has a commitment for 2006 and that has led to speculation that there may be some deal in place for him to move up from GP2 to British American Racing Honda, which is known to be keen on the young Ulsterman. Carroll was one of the drivers tested by BAR last autumn in a series of suitability tests at Bruntingthorpe. He was then tested by the team, albeit briefly, at Jerez in December and then in Valencia in January. It may be that BAR is subsidising his GP2 ride this year as the Super Nova Racing car is not overburdened with sponsorship and Carroll does not come from a wealthy background.

Carroll's place in the A1 test will be taken by another man who was tested by BAR, James Rossiter, who is currently racing in the Formula 3 Euroseries. He will join Ralph Firman, Robbie Kerr and Alex Lloyd.
