GP2 for Bahrain

The GP2 series has announced that, subject to official confirmation of the calendar (and the rules) of the new championship by the FIA, there will be 12 rounds in 2005 with the finale taking place in Bahrain on September 24-25. The other races are scheduled to take place at the French, San Marino, Spanish, Monaco, European, British, German, Hungarian, Turkish, Italian and Belgian Grands Prix.

The race, which will presumably add to the travel costs of the teams involved, will be a great help for Bahrain as it tries to boost interest in motor racing in the Middle East.

The track will host the inaugural Bahrain Formula 3 Super Prix on December 9-10.
