Liuzzi does it again

Vitantonio Liuzzi won his second consecutive Formula 3000 race this year, taking an impressive victory in Barcelona and seeing off pole man Enrico Toccacelo in the run down to the first corner. After that Liuzzi was unchallenged and finished 11 seconds clear of Toccacelo. There was then a huge gap back to third placed Raffaele Giammaria (AEZ).

There was plenty of action down through the field as Alan Van der Merwe (Super Nova Racing) and Jeffrey Van Hooydonk (Coloni) fought a spirited battle for third place which resulted in both falling back with damaged cars. Also running into trouble were Tomas Enge (Ma-Con Engineering) and Yannick Schroeder (Durango) who took one another off while fighting for fourth.

Patrick Friesacher (Super Nova Racing) finished fourth ahead of Esteban Guerrieri (BCN Competicion) and Jose Maria Lopez (CMS Performance) who had a bad first lap and had to race though from the back of the field.

The win gives Liuzzi a lead of four points over Toccacelo, who also finished second in the first event in Imola.
