Testing continues in Barcelona, Silverstone
MCLAREN and Sauber were back at it again in Barcelona on Wednesday, where young guns Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa tested their teams' new machinery for the first time. Raikkonen got his first taste of the new McLaren MP4/17, while Massa climbed behind the wheel of the Sauber C21, which is scheduled to be officially launched on Friday.
Massa completed 51 laps of the Spanish circuit in Sauber's newest offering. "After this first test I am full of enthusiasm for the C21," said the Brazilian. "It has more grip and is more stable than the C20, which in turn makes me more confident at the wheel. The Petronas 02A engine is powerful and well integrated, and we have a very competitive package."
David Coulthard was also in attendance in Barcelona, running last year's MP4/16 for McLaren. The Scot turned the fastest time of the day, almost two seconds faster than his young teammate in the new car.
While McLaren and Sauber continued testing in Barcelona, so too did Jordan at Silverstone. Giancarlo Fisichella, who ran the new EJ12 for the first time on Tuesday, was again in action on Wednesday. The Italian had a slight accident on the wet track, however, damaging the rear of the car, and ending his day prematurely. Takuma Sato also ran at Silverstone in a EJ11 chassis.
