Raikkonen crash halts testing for Sauber

SAUBER suffered a setback to their testing program when their Finnish starlet Kimi Raikkonen crashed at Silverstone.

Raikkonen was caught out by Ricardo Zonta as the Jordan tester slowed in front of him and left the young Finn with nowhere to go.

He put a wheel on the grass and that sent the car off into the barriers, demolishing the right hand side and ending his test session.

Zonta apologized after the incident, and Raikkonen was just relieved to have walked away. "The main thing is I am not hurt," said Raikkonen.

"Ricardo Zonta explained that he was not sure which side of the track I would be on, and he hesitated as he saw me in his rear mirrors. These things happen."

The test saw British American Racing top the times with Olivier Panis, while Raikkonen took third fastest time before his accident.

Jos Verstappen ended the day second in the Arrows, but his team-mate Enrique Bernoldi could not match the Dutchman for pace and finished at the bottom of the timesheets.

Jordan had a difficult day with Ricardo Zonta and Jarno Trulli completing just 17 laps between them as post-lunch rain spoiled the running and made it impossible to improve the times.
