Jordan expand race team

JORDAN drivers Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli will have an additional race engineer for the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, the team have said.

Jordan will introduced a third engineer for both drivers at the Circuit de Catalunya as they attempt to challenge Williams for third in the constructors' championship.

Head of engineering Tim Holloway said: "A great deal of day-to-day work will be taken off the race engineer's shoulders, allowing him to concentrate more fully on his role of improving car set-up.

"The assistant engineer supports his race engineer by checking the car, the set-up and ensuring that the mechanics have got all the relevant information they need to work on the car.

"It doesn't sound much, but it's amazing how much work a race engineer has in just running around making sure mechanics have got set-up sheets and so on."

He added: "At the same time, it is also a very good learning curve for the young engineers, as we want them to progress into the number one role in the future."

Meanwhile, the Jordan Honda Powerboat, which will compete in the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Series, will be officially launched in Port Vell, Barcelona, on Thursday.
