Tunisia announces F1 plans

KARIM AZUZ, the president of the Tunisian Automobile Club, announced on Thursday that he is ready to meet the Federation Internationale l'Automobile (FIA) in a bid to host a grand prix in the future.

Azuz, speaking in Monte Carlo, confirmed that the African nation plan to host a Formula One race in the future and said that a circuit has already been constructed, which meets FIA standards.

"We are a country which has a strong tourist association, therefore to host a Formula One Grand Prix is logically one of our main objectives," Azuz said.

"We have constructed a city layout at Berge Du Lac, which is at the port of Tunis and we have already hosted a visit by FIA observers."

Tunisia will be added to a list of a number of countries hoping to play a part in Formula One with China, Egypt and South African all vying for a grand prix.
