Two-horse race for Herbert seat at Jaguar

JACKIE STEWART has now joined in the debate on who will fill the second seat at Jaguar, saying that it is now down to two drivers.

The former Formula One World Champion, who relinquished his post as Chairman and CEO of the team at the start of the year, suggested that Jaguar test driver Luciano Burti is one of the drivers set to replace Johnny Herbert when he leaves at the end of this season.

Stewart said: "We've certainly got one driver who has a considerable amount of experience and we've got the option to take Luciano [Burti]."

Stewart did not divulge who the second driver could be, but he suggested Dario Franchitti is now out of the frame.

After a disappointing test at Silverstone, where he was two seconds slower than Burti, Franchitti is expected to re-sign for Team Kool Green Honda in the American Champ Car series.

Burti has excellent knowledge of the car, and has proved to be a hit with the team. Jaguar is expected to announce their driver line-up for next season before this year's United States Grand Prix at the end of September.
