Wurz fit for Hungary

BENETTON driver Alexander Wurz has declared himself fit to drive at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the team said: "He is fine. He is definitely not as bad as we first thought."

Austrian Wurz sustained injuries from a crash whilst testing in Valencia in Spain last week.

He crashed in the final hours of the session which resulted in a wishbone puncturing the monocoque of his B2000 and into his right leg.

"He has taken a few days rest," continued the spokesperson, "and he has said that he is fine to race in Budapest next weekend."

If he proved to be unfit to race, Benetton were unsure as to who would replace the Austrian, as the team have no official test driver.

It is likely that Wurz will undergo a rigorous fitness test once he gets to Hungary, overseen by Formula One's medical chief officer Prof. Sid Watkins.
