McLaren's dominant in Silverstone test
Test driver Panis was quickest at the Northamptonshire-circuit with a lap time of one minute and 24.272 seconds, over half-a-second quicker than world championship challenger Coulthard.
Benetton's Giancarlo Fisichella was third fastest of the day, ahead of Jordan's Jarno Trulli, whose day ended after he span and hit a barrier.
Jaguar's Luciano Burti ended the day fifth quickest ahead of Mika Salo, who was followed by British American Racing trio Patrick LeMarie, Ricardo Zonta and Darren Manning.
Scot Dario Franchitti could only go tenth quickest in his final day of testing with Jaguar. BMW-Williams' Jenson Button ended slowest of the day, almost five seconds down on Panis as he concentrated on set-up work ahead of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.
