THE 1996 French Grand Prix will take place at Magny-Cours, the circuit's five-year deal between 1991-95 having been extended by one year.

The French national sporting authority has asked other French circuits which are interested in bidding for the contract between 1997-2001 to put together their proposals before October, when a long-term decision will be taken.

Magny-Cours is expected to bid once again but there are likely to be strong proposals from Paul Ricard, Le Mans and maybe even one from Montlhery, near Paris. A decision in October this year will give the organizers of any of the circuits plenty of time to do the necessary work to meet all FIA requirements for F1 tracks.
