Good showing from Arrows

TOM WALKINSHAW's Arrows team gave a warning last week that the operation should not be overlooked this year. PedroÊDiniz, at the wheel of the new John Barnard designed Arrows A19 was faster in the wet at Silverstone than both Benetton and Jordan.

Walkinshaw said at the launch of the new car that it would give Diniz and his team mate Mika Salo the opportunity to race for points this year. The team has completed only 500 miles of testing since the first car ran at the end of January but goes to Melbourne with three of the cars, which are powered by Brian Hart's new V10 engine, badged as an Arrows V10.

There are many rumors currently circulating suggesting that Walkinshaw is intending to sell the engine to a major motor manufacturer with the names of Nissan and Volvo both being mentioned but that is unlikely to happen until 1999 at the earliest and then only if the engine has proved to be competitive.

It is interesting to note, however, that Williams technical director Patrick Head singled out the Arrows as the most interesting of the 1998 cars from a technical point of view.
