Eric van de Poele

This promising newcomer started his career in single seaters before joining the BMW Junior team in 1987 in the Group A touring car category. An impressive Formula 300 exponent who won the last Birmingham Super Prix in 1990, van de Poele graduated to Formula 1 with the uncompetitive Modena-Lamborghini team in 1991, qualifying only once all season in Imola. He switched to the fading Brabham team for 1992, finishing 13th in the South African Grand Prix and then joined Fondmetal for three races from Budapest onwards after Brabham finally closed its doors for good. Van de Poele then switched to touring and sportscar racing, driving a Ferrari to victory in the 1995 Sebring 12 Hours with Fermin Velez.
