Harald Ertl

A delightful personality who sported an impeccable Inspector Clouseau-style mustache in addition to a beard over which he somehow managed to squeeze a crash helmet. Basically a journalist and amateur racer, Harald gained sufficient sponsorship to dabble in Formula 1 with various teams between 1975 and 1977. He was one of the four drivers who helped to get Niki Lauda out of his burning Ferrari at the Nurburgring in 1976. He was killed in a light airplane accident whilst taking his family to their holiday home in northern Germany.
