Alan Brown

One of the stars of the postwar 500cc Formula 3 scene, this truck sales representative employed by Dennis Motors at Guildford made his name by winning the 1951 Luxembourg Grand Prix in a Cooper. He finished fifth in a Cooper-Bristol in the following year's Swiss Grand Prix and was later entrusted with tests of the first Vanwall at Odiham airfield in Hampshire before giving the car its race debut in the 1954 Silverstone International Trophy. Thereafter he raced a Connaught intermittently, then a Jaguar D-type before retiring at the end of 1956. He became a team owner.
