The Otodrom is located at in the Tepeoren-Tuzla area, close to the city's new airport on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, the straits which link the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara and which separates Europe from Asia. Work began on the new facility in September 2003 and was completed in May to a design by Germany's Herman Tilke. The track is unusual in that it is run anti-clockwise. It has 14 corners and is 5.3km in length and includes a series of up and down sections which make it more interesting than some of the flatter circuits during the year. There is a track capacity of 130,000 people.
